Meet the Staff
The Shop Floor
Matt Taylor (Shop Manager)
Matt is the owners son, so genetically should be our highest achiever. Matt brings experience of all aspects of Gaugemaster to his role as shop manager and also spent a year working in Australia so mixes a great cocktail and pours a mean VB.
Pat Pettett (Assistant Shop Manager)
Pat is a long serving member of shop staff who has a very diverse range of interests in and out of work, although we have to confess, he is the man we turn to when needing advice on G Scale and figure painting.
Ian Linley (Sales)
Ian is our diecast man and could probably retire tomorrow should he decide to weigh in his collection of diecast vehicles at the local scrapyard. Ian is also very knowledgeable about plastic kits, military modelling, West Bromwich Albion as well as OO gauge model railways.
Martin Lovell (Sales)
Martin is our friendliest member of shop staff and will happily chat about most things to customers while occasionally selling things now and again. He is an expert on narrow gauge and if you are lucky, may show you his photographs of various projects he has on his workbench.
Matt Lovell (Sales)
Matt is Martin’s son and started off as a Saturday "boy" in the shop then progressing to Saturday "lad" and now full time "man". Matt is very versatile and turns his hand to many tasks around the building with enthusiasm and skill.
James Hickman (Sales)
James helps us out in the shop in and around his university commitments which seem to consist of listening to music, drinking and very occasionally, working. He is a talented N gauge modeller who has a very unique layout which challenges the perceived way of conceiving a layout.
Craig Weatherley (Sales)
Craig is our newest recruit who works part time in the shop and has fitted in amazingly well, always industrious and looking for new tasks.
The Sales Office
Charlie Trickett (Operations Manager)
Charlie has been with the company for a very long time and has worked his way up from a warehouseman to Operations Manager in that time. Extremely practical, his work in creating Bahnhof Europa and our exhibition stands have proved very successful while his skills in IT have also helped the company make excellent progress in this area to the benefit of all our customers. Out of work, Charlie enjoys frightening motorbikes but has over the last couple of years, swapped his motorbikes for children instead.
Julian Lilley (Sales Manager)
Julian brings a wealth of top class department store experience to the company, having run several big name stores. Most of you will have been in one of Julian’s stores at some point. A larger than life character, Julian is already proving popular with colleagues and customers alike. He is about to cycle the length of the country – We think he’ll beat the 0920 Penzance to Aberdeen...
Terry Smith (Brand Manager)
What can be said about our Chelsea-supporting, Chevy driving, rock singing colleague that already hasn’t been said? Terry is 18 years old (in his head) and likes all things American and most things on 4 wheels. After a long spell managing the shop, Terry was recently appointed as a brand manager and looks after our Slot Cars and American ranges.
Duncan Parkin (IT/New Media)
Duncan has magic powers that can break and mend computers almost at will using Jedi mind tricks. He is an expert in things us mere mortals cannot explain and has been vitally important in the development of our IT. Duncan drives a very fast plastic car in his spare time and has a worrying sense of humour not consistent with your "traditional" IT manager.
Alastair MacLean (Accounts)
Alastair brings a huge amount of corporate experience to Gaugemaster which has proved invaluable as the business has grown over the years. He is also very active in the business community and has been known to shake a charity bucket dressed as Santa on the odd occasion...
Katharine Stone (Accounts/Sales)
Katharine joined us in the warehouse to cover our busy season, and was so good she never left. Recently the subject of a transfer from the warehouse to the office, she is now putting her skills to use in various administrative roles. Katharine was in the same middle school class as Ian F, so he has to tread carefully around her to avoid any embarrassing stories being revealed!
Stuart Jordan (Sales/Media)
Stuart has been with the company since exactly October 2nd 2006 and happily undertakes many of the tasks that keep the Gaugemaster machine rolling. He is currently turning his talent to more web-orientated tasks and has a real flair for graphic design. Stuart also seems to enjoy all things from the 1990’s so if you are a fan of that decade’s music, TV and comedy, you will like Stuart.
David Norton (Sales)
David is another veteran soldier from Gaugemaster who has seen many things come and go in his time with us. One of the first people on the phones, the chances are that if you’ve phoned us up, you’ve spoken to David. Out of work, David is an incredibly talented photographer who puts my efforts with a mobile phone to shame.
Natalie Mortlock (Sales)
Natalie joined us in 2009 and is probably one of the friendliest people you will meet. Her cheerful demeanour wasn’t even diminished after a weekend at Warley, which surprised all of us. Natalie looks after our customers in between looking after her children, her horses and of most importantly Charlie, her fiancée!
Kevin Player (Field Sales)
Kevin joined us 4 years ago after a long career in the timber trade and has never looked back. One of the most enthusiastic people here, he is an expert in all things European N gauge and I challenge anyone to beat him on this subject. Seriously.
Eric Hyde (Field Sales)
Eric is our third longest serving member of staff and is our irrepressible, unforgettable northern salesman. A keen railway enthusiast, Eric has been known to venture over to Poland to enjoy live steam overseas, as well as watching it from the lineside here in the UK.
The Service Department
Greg Spears (Technical Manager)
If you have had a question that needs answering about your control system over the last 15 years, it’s probably been Greg that has answered it. He has forgotten more than most have ever learned about model railway electrics and his patient and modest manner is appreciated by all who speak to him. He is also who we turn to when we need advice on cars! Real ones not slot! - C
Steve Chapman (Technical)
Steve started his Gaugemaster life in the warehouse before graduating to the technical department where his inquisitive nature can be put to better use. Steve also knows more about model railways than he will ever own up to and even speaks a little bit of German too.
Ann Walder (Production)
Ann is our longest serving employee whose nimble fingers and skills with a soldering iron have served the company incredibly well over the years. Ann is a HUGE Cliff Richards fan which explains the calendar in the workshop in case you were wondering...
The Despatch Department
Den Hall (Despatch Manager)
Den enjoyed a long career in the police force so was an ideal candidate to keep our despatch team on the straight and narrow and does so quietly and efficiently. Well, maybe not so quietly if someone does something daft but that’s another story...
Keith Willis (Assistant Despatch Manager)
Keith assists Den in the running of the despatch department and does so with cheerful industry. Keith is a big fan of aviation and was the holder of a pilots licence which many colleagues took advantage of with various "Air Keith" tours of the south booked! Keith also knows a lot more than he lets on about railways and slot cars, as his young daughter has currently tasked him with various projects on them on her behalf!
Mark Holland (Mail Order Team Leader)
Mark is a hard-working member of the despatch team who knows more about Royal Mail services and codes than is probably healthy. He joined us in 2008 from a background in supermarket retailing and has helped us apply some of their better principles to how we run the warehouse.
Paul Heath (Despatch)
Paul has been with the team since 2009 and almost rivals Natalie in the smiley stakes. An incredibly willing worker who turns his hands to all tasks with both enthusiasm and competence. We also believe Paul holds a Guinness World Record for "number of times the GM staircase has been descended and ascended in a day"
David Heath (Despatch)
David is our longest serving member of the despatch team and revels in the awkward, difficult and oddly shaped (parcels not staff before you ask!). David also enjoys aviation and can sometimes be seen with binoculars at the end of the estate when there’s interesting things flying to or from Goodwood.
Mark Bridger (Despatch)
Mark is one of our mail order packers and would be your typical "White Van Man" were it not for the fact that he doesn’t drive a white van. A fan of comedy, Mark has also been known to tread the boards himself while he also has a keen interest in football and can be found cheering on his heroes from White Hart Lane from the comfort of his armchair most weekends.
Susie Whitmee (Despatch)
Susie joined us as a part time mail order packer and has seen her role broaden over the years as various new technologies have been rolled out. Susie combines her work here with looking after her family and occasionally treats us by baking us the finest sausage rolls in Sussex.
John Chandler (Despatch/ Sales)
John worked part time for a number of years but has now joined us full time. He is still a mad scientist and moonlights in the shop and at exhibitions from time to time. John is full of ideas and knowledge and is rather expert on all things Swiss, French and T Gauge.
