We now offer the function of searching an entire gauge or scale for a particular type of product.  For example if you want to search for OO scale BR Wagons you would see that Bachmann, Dapol, Parkside & Hornby all have products that fit the description.  Products are assembled onto the page in convenient batches of 25 with links to further groups of 25 both at the top and bottom of the page.  Searches on the manufacturer pages function in the same way but are obviously limited to the manufacturer in question.  Read on for details on how to use these searches...

On each of the gauge feature pages, and on many of the manufacturer focus pages, you will find up to three drop-down boxes containing the product group in question.  Sometimes there is only one box, sometimes two, depending on the size of the product group to be searched.  These enable you to search products relevant to the feature page in question (i.e. OO gauge products on the OO Focus page).  On pages that contain a single box, such as the LGB feature page, select a category and click ‘View’ to load in those products.

On pages with two or more boxes, use the first box (Step 1) to select the first category, which will then activate the second box (Step 2) containing subcategories, and so on until you have made a selection in each box.  Then click ‘View’ to load in the products according to the subcategory you have selected.

So, for example, on the Märklin feature page, you might select ‘HO Gauge’ in Step 1, ‘Rolling Stock’ in Step 2 and ‘Epoch Three Coaches’ in Step 3.  On clicking ‘View’, the results page will then load only the products relevant to these selections, in this case Era III coaches in HO gauge made by Märklin.

Every page has a Keyword Searchbox located in the top right corner.  Enter the keywords that fit the description of what you are looking for and click the ‘Go’ button when you are ready to search.

For example, if you were looking for a Hornby Class 31 diesel loco, you might enter the keywords ‘hornby 31’.  This will then search the database and return any results that match these keywords.  The more keywords that you enter, the narrower the search will be, so entering only ‘hornby’ will return every item from the Hornby range, and entering just ‘wagon’ will return every wagon in every scale by every manufacturer.  By narrowing the search as much as possible, it will be easier to find a specific product.

Please note that on the Slot Car pages, these boxes have been pre-set to search only Slot Car & related products.  Please return to any of the non-Slot Car pages to search the entire product database.

Below the Keyword searchbox on every page is a Part Number searchbox.  If you know the part number of the item you are looking for, or have a rough idea of what it is, enter that number here to return any products with a part number which match your search.  Again, click the ‘Go’ button to begin the search.

For example, entering ‘gm1’ will return all products with a part number matching, or containing that search term.  As with the keyword searchbox, entering a longer number will narrow the search, so entering just ‘gm’ will return more products, and entering ‘gm11’ will return less products.

As with the keyword search above, the part number search boxes on the Slot Car pages have been pre-set to search only Slot Car & related products.

We have also laid out our entire product list in tree form, allowing users to browse through different sections and categories to find what they need.  Follow the link to ‘Product Map’ on the left hand menu of each page.  The first branch of the tree is Manufacturers, and the complete list will be displayed first.  Select a manufacturer to progress on to the next stage, Section.

This step breaks each manufacturer down into the Gauges (such as OO or N) that they offer, and may also include sections for items that can be used for two or more gauges.  The third step is category, and this further narrows the options down into categories contained within each section.  For example, selecting ‘Faller’ and then ‘HO Scale’ will present categories for ‘Building Kits & Related Items’, ‘Car System’ and so on.  Selecting one of these options will then load in the appropriate list of products.

Please note that sometimes the map will appear to miss out a stage.  For example, selecting ‘Aristocraft’ from the manufacturer list will lead directly to a list of products.  This occurs when searching smaller ranges who may manufacture for only one Gauge, or who's products are all of a similar type.  In instances where there is only one sub-category, the search will skip straight to the next part of the tree.

We have also provided the facility for a user to work backwards along the tree.  At the top of each page in the tree you will find the ‘breadcrumbs’, with links back to the previous stages of the tree which you have selected.  This makes it easier to revisit a previous point on the map to make an alternative selection.

For the benefit of other shops and traders who buy from us, Gaugemaster.com has a dedicated Trade section requiring a logon.  Customers who do not own shops or businesses do not need a logon to browse the site or place orders, but we provide an option to register an account to save your details for next time.  Customers or businesses who do not have a Trade account with us, but who wish to open one, should contact us to begin the application process.

On many parts of the website, we may offer links to search for particular types of product.  One such example is the hotpicks selection which appears on the right-hand menu of many pages.  Clicking these links will then perform the appropriate search in the same way as any of the above methods.
