The 14XX class Locomotive was introduced in 1932, and seventy-five were built at Swindon Works. All of the class were push/pull fitted; allowing them to operate with the GWR designed Autocoach. Coupled together it allowed the unit to negate the engine having to run round the coach at rural termini, as the driver just had to go the cab end of the coach to drive the train back in the other direction.
Via various connections between the coach and locomotive, the driver could operate the regulator, brakes and whistle from the coach, whilst leaving the fireman back in the loco to take care of the coaling and valve gear settings. These trains generally ran down some of the smaller GWR branch lines to places such as Ashburton and Hemyock, where often a single fruit van or milk tank was added to the train as it made its way back to stations on the GWR mainline network.
This set includes an exclusive GWR 14XX tank locomotive, Autocoach and a United Dairies 6 wheeled milk tank so you can re-create your own West Country scene from a bygone age.
