Piko HO and N Scale 2019 New Items

Craig Weatherley

CRAIG WEATHERLEY looks at what is due for release in 2019 from Piko in HO and N Scale.

The Nuremberg Toy Fair in February is the perfect opportunity for manufacturers to show off their new items for the year ahead. Piko were there as always, and we've already seen their G Scale offerings for 2019. Piko are a big brand in the world of model railways and their range covers N, TT, HO and G Scale. They are passionate about creating new and exciting products every year, so naturally we are always really excited to see what they are planning to release.

In this article Im going to take a look at some of the Piko N and HO Scale releases for 2019 the items which I personally feel are particularly interesting

N Scale

Piko New Items 2019

First up is this little 0-8-0 BR82 steam locomotive in N Scale - PK40104.

This model has been improved with a die-cast zinc cast frame, a built in next18 DCC decoder socket, and new and improved detailing. Piko are also producing a DCC-Sound version of the locomotive for digital runners, under the part number PK40105.

Piko New Items 2019

There is some interesting rolling stock on the way, in the form of heavy duty flat wagons. One of the liveries is Dutch company VolkerRail (shown above) and the other is the Austrian transport service RTS.

Piko New Items 2019

The BR221 Diesel Locomotive was a bit of a workhorse, used for express trains, commuter services, as well as some freight running. Piko are also releasing a DCC Fitted version under part number PK40501.

HO Scale

Now something for our HO modellers!

Piko New Items 2019

This model of the BR94 Class, in the iconic black body and red chassis of the DR livery, is a strange looking loco originally of Prussian origin. It will blend into any Era III layout, also available in AC for the 3-rail modellers out there.

Piko New Items 2019

The easiest and most economical way to start in model railways is a starter set, and Piko are releasing several this year. In the Piko Hobby range this year we will see this Freight Starter Set (PK97923). This set comes complete with a Steam locomotive, two wagons, a passenger coach, controller and a complete circle of track. The Piko Hobby range is made up of well detailed but robust items, so they are ideal for beginners or younger modellers. Click the link to see the rest of the Starter Sets due for release this year.

Piko New Items 2019

This new train pack represents a train which ran from Koln to Rostock, pulled by a Soviet-built BR132 Class locomotive, (PK58114). It is in the Piko Expert range, which means it will be a fantastically detailed model.

HO Scale A-Track with Roadbed

Piko New Items 2019

Now for something completely brand new and different!

This is a new system of track with an integrated roadbed which Piko have released in HO Scale. The rails are nickel silver, Code 100 in rail height, easily assembled and disassembled, and a realistic ballast texture and colour. There are various lengths of straights, curves, and points, as well as a couple of track packs on the way. See the full A-Track ballasted track range here.
