T Gauge (1:450 scale), is presently the smallest model railway scale in the world with a track gauge of only 3mm, the ‘T’ of ‘T gauge’ is an abbreviation of three millimeters.
It was introduced at the Tokyo Toy Show in 2006 by Eishindo of Japan, and went on sale in 2007. It is presently the smallest commercial model railway scale in the world. The models are powered by 4.5V DC motors and to improve power pickup the motorcoaches are fitted with magnetic wheels, with the motor located in the middle as each train comes with two powered coaches. The front and rear coaches are equipped with directional headlights with the pantographs are made of metal.
The first train released was the famous Japanese Series 103 commuter train in different liveries. Two different curves, radius 120mm and 132.5mm are provided and 60mm straight track sections are available. All these tracks have roadbed fixed to them, much like Fleischmann Profi or Marklin C Track. The profile height is approximately 1mm, in order to provide smooth running of the trains. Track pieces are connected with metal rail joiners and clips in the roadbed. Power connection to the track is easily achieved via the DC feeder that can be pushed into a straight piece of track. You can add different types of catenary masts to the track which can be clipped to the roadbed.
A special controller has been created for the T-Gauge system, powered by three 1.5V batteries or an AC adapter. The direction of the train is changed by pressing a button. As well as the DC feed you can also connect two infrared sensors that can be clipped to the track. These sensors can be used to automatically change the direction of the train, stopping time with the sensitivity of the sensors variable. The basic track sets contain an oval of track, controller, DC feed, two sensors, a rerailer and a cleaning device for the powered wheels of the trains. The AC adapter is available separately.

In addition to the trains and track accessories T-Gauge also offers variety of scenic items. Already available are different houses, figures, trees, bikes and motorbikes. The houses are pre-built, with only the interiors needing to be snapped in. Figures, bikes and motorbikes are made of metal and are pre-coloured. To provide an easy setup on the layout most small items have a small pin of app. 1mm size attached, that can be "plugged" into the layout board. For ease of work, a small set of tweezers and a 1mm drill are available. A set with road signs and traffic lights is available for road decoration, as well as a street decoration decal sheet. This sheet comes with a scale helping you to convert distances to scale 1/450.
Incredibly, pointwork is due in early 2009 along with flexible track sections. This video shows the prototype points in a working demonstration !
All in all, this is a remarkable product and certain to provoke discussions amongst modellers old and new. It has to be seen to be believed!
